Fender was awarded the cheque on October 16 as his latest record the album was named the top album of the past year.

The musician has chosen to hand the money over to the MVT, in appreciation of the vital role small stages fulfilled in his early career.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it weren't for all the shows I played around the area, and further afield, when I was starting out," said the artist. "These spaces are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these locations have ceased operations – about 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

Recently, top acts such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its initiatives to help venues survive, by adding a modest fee to their ticket costs, which benefits local stages.

Sam Fender also participated, raising in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist thirty-eight grassroots venues across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The money helped spaces that were facing potential shutdown due to challenges stemming from flooding, fires and personal losses, as well as permit problems, court cases and sound issues.

Other venues were granted funding support in upgrading amenities and gear that directly benefitted musicians and audiences.

"The concept that revenue from shows in big venues backs the smaller venues, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has commented.
